The President of the Republic of Serbia, Mr. Aleksandar Vucic, sent a greeting to the newly elected Archbishop of Pec, Metropolitan of Belgrade-Karlovci and Patriarch of Serbia, Porfirije, saying:

Ο Σεβ. Μητροπολίτης Ζάγκρεμπ και Λιουμπλιάνας Πορφύριος (Πέριτς) εξελέγη 46ος Πατριάρχης Σερβίας νωρίς το απόγευμα της Πέμπτης 18 Φεβρουαρίου. Με το άγγελμα της εκλογής οι καμπάνες στο ναό του Αγίου Σάββα ήχησαν χαρμόσυνα ενώ με ενθουσιασμό δέχθηκαν την είδηση και στο Ζάγκρεμπ.

The Holy Assembly of Bishops elected His Eminence Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana, PhD, as the new Serbian Patriarch, in its convocation in Memorial Cathedral of Saint Sava in Belgrade on 18 February 2021.

PRAYERFUL BEGINNING OF THE HOLY ASSEMBLY OF BISHOPS

 

The Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church began with the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy at the Saint Sava Memorial Cathedral in the Vracar district, Belgrade, at 9 am on February 18, 2021. The Liturgy was officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan Hrizostom of Dabar-Bosnia with the concelebration and prayerful presence of the hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church gathered on the occasion of the election of the new Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The Holy Assembly of Bishops for the election of a new Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church will commence at the Saint Sava Memorial Cathedral in the Vracar district at 9 a.m. with the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy which will be officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan Hrizostom of Dabar-Bosnia, chairman of the Holy Synod of Bishops, with the concelebration of the hierarchs.

Η Σύνοδος της Εκκλησίας της Σερβίας θα ενημερώσει σύντομα για τη διαδικασία εκλογής του νέου Πατριάρχη, μετά την κοίμηση του μακαριστού Πατριάρχη Σερβίας κυρού Ειρηναίου, τόνισε ο Μητροπολίτης Δαμπροβοσνίας, ο οποίος είναι τοποτηρητής του πατριαρχικού θρόνου. Πρόσθεσε ωστόσο, ότι καθοριστικό ρόλο στην διαδικασία θα παίξει η εξέλιξη της επιδημιολογικής κατάστασης.

Communique of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church

Regarding the latest recommendations of the Government of Serbia, in order to suppress the spread of the COVID-19 virus, "religious services in churches and in the open air are to be performed without the presence of the faithful", with the clarification that the aim of these recommendations is a safe way of worship and the protection of public health, all the while enabling worship to continue, we inform all our clergy, monastics, and faithful that the Serbian Orthodox Church will implement these recommendations, as it has already done in those countries of the Serbian diaspora and other regions where such protective measures have been taken a few days ago. The Church will not interrupt the serving of the Divine Liturgy or cease communing the faithful, because this is a matter which cannot be debated: it is the basis of our faith in the Living God. Specifically, this means that during the services in the church there is to be a priest (or priests) with a deacon, chanter, and an altar server (according to the need and circumstance).

On the third week of Great Lent (Sunday of the Veneration of the Holy Cross) the Divine Liturgy was served in all churches of the Serbian Orthodox Church, in compliance with all instructions being required for protection from the COVID-19 virus (no more than five people inside the church, the faithful standing in front and on the side of the church to practice social distancing, etc.). However, uninvited guests from well-known anti-church and anti-Serbian circles appeared, and as a result their media and the media partial to them began an orchestrated and slanderous chase against the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The Patriarch of Serbia, His Holiness Irinej, addressed the Orthodox faithful in Montenegro over the weekend, saying in a sermon that he prays that the contentious issue facing the Orthodox Church in the small Adriatic country will be resolved without harming the Church.

Στη συνάντηση συμμετείχαν και μέλη της νομικής ομάδας, στο πλαίσιο της προσπάθειας να χαρακτηριστεί ο νόμος αντισυνταγματικός.
