POPE FRANCIS STARTS THREE-DAY VISIT TO ROMANIA
Pope Francis has started his three-day visit to Romania. The pope’s plane touched down Friday in Bucharest. On behalf of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Pope Francis was welcomed
by His Eminence Hon Metropolitan Nifon, Archbishop of Targoviste and
patriarchal exarch. The schedule of the visit to the Romanian Patriarchate includes a
meeting with His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel and the members of the
Permanent Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church at the Palace of the
Patriarchate on Friday, May 31, 2019, at 15.45 p.m. Following the meeting, at 17.00 p.m., Pope Francis will visit the
National Cathedral, where he will be welcomed by His Beatitude Patriarch
Daniel, who will address a paschal welcome message, followed by the
response message of His Holiness. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on December 17, 1936, Jorge Mario
Bergoglio became Pope Francis on March 13, 2013, when he was named the
