PARTICIPATION OF HIS EMINENCE ARCHBISHOP NIKITAS AT THE ATHENS DEMOCRACY FORUM

His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of Thyayeira and Great Britain participated at the Athens Democracy Forum entitled, “The New Abnormal: Reimagining Democracy”, September 30 – October 2. The Forum is the second of its kind organized by the Democracy and Culture Foundation, in association with The New York Times and under the Patronage of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic, Ms. Katerina Sakellaropoulou. This prestigious Forum, primarily a virtual event, gathered leaders from government, business, civic society and the non-profit sector with the aim of exploring tangible solutions to challenges facing democracy particularly focused on producing outcomes on multilevels.

His Eminence participated on a panel discussion themed, “The Power of Belief” on Friday, 2nd October 2020, at noon. His co-panellists were His Excellency Margaritis Schinas, Vice President of the European Commission, and Mrs. Fatima Zaman, Advocate, Kofi Annan Foundation. Mrs. Farah Nayeri, Culture Writer, New York Times, moderated the session and facilitated further discussion on whether religion and ideology hinder or act as guiding lights in a democracy. It is significant to note that, the Archbishop was the only clergyman speaking at the Forum.
