THE PANDEMIC COULD NOT DARKEN THE DAY OF RESURRECTION, WHICH BRINGS US PEACE AND HOPE: BISHOP OF COVASNA AND HARGHITA

Bishop Andrei of Covasna and Harghita stressed that “the pandemic could not darken” the Resurrection of the Lord, “this day of light and grace”. He urged believers not to despair, to multiply good deeds, and to remain united in their families.

“We all see and feel the distress and the fear of plagues, and that the dominion of death extends over the face of the whole earth. Humankind is adrift,” Bishop Andrei wrote in his Easter message.

“The darkness of death frightens us more and more, but the encouragement comes from the One who scattered the darkness of death, from the Risen Christ. We look with faith and optimism, this year, in the hope that things will return to normal, that we will see our faces and our loved ones without any distress,” the hierarch noted.

“The question has often been asked why did God allow all of humankind to go through one of the most difficult situations in recent years? At least from a theological perspective, the answer is a very natural one: the progressive removal of humankind from God,” added the Bishop of Covasna and Harghita.

“Contemporary man no longer seeks redemption through faith and prayer, he appeals to various gods, who cannot replace divine providence.”

The Bishop urged Christians to proclaim the Resurrection of Christ “even to those who are in the darkness of sin, falling easily into the spirit of despair in the face of trials.” He also stressed the need “to multiply good deeds that are so necessary in these difficult times.”

He highlighted that the Light Christ gives us year after year will guide the country and the people to overcome the trials we go through and which should be understood from a spiritual perspective, as temptations from the body, the world and the devil.

In his pastoral letter, the hierarch referred to the role of angels in proclaiming the Resurrection and in the spiritual support offered to people.
