OCU SYNOD SUMMONS FILARET’S ENTOURAGE TO ECCLESIASTICAL COURT

On February 2, 2022, the Synod of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine summoned to the church court over “gross violations of the canonical order” former bishops with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, close to honorary patriarch Filaret, who took part in illegitimate “ordinations.”

This is stated in Synod’s decision, published by the OCU press service.

“For gross violation of canonical order, participation in illegal meetings and so-called bishop ordinations in Kyiv, former Metropolitan Joasaph (Shibayev) of Belgorod and Oboyan, former Bishop Filaret (Panku) of Belgorod-Dniester, and former Bishop Petro (Moskalyov) of Valuysk were banned from service and summoned to the court of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine on charges on which they are subject to deprivation of sacred position. If they fail to report to the hearing, they shall be subject to trial in absentia.”

Earlier, former Metropolitan Joasaph (Shibayev) of Belgorod and Oboyan, former Bishop Filaret (Panku) of Belgorod-Dniester, and former Bishop Petro (Moskalyov) of Valuysk took part in the Unification Council and the enthronement of the head of the OCU, Metropolitan Epifaniy. Later, they joined the anti-canonical initiative of Honorary Patriarch Filaret to restore the UOC-KP, which he, himself, had liquidated.

It should be recalled that Russian experts compared Filaret’s anti-canonical actions to the ROC’s invasion of Africa. Also, the Greek-language outlet “Romfea” circulated a fake report about the “exarch of the UOC-KP in Greece.”
