POPE AND PATRIARCH THEODOROS OF ALEXANDRIA CEASES COMMEMORATION OF PATRIARCH KIRILL OF MOSCOW

On Tuesday, 22 November 2022, the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria convened, under the presidency of His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria, at the Katholikon of the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of Saint George in Old Cairo.

The opening of the agenda was announced by His Beatitude, who, according to the communique of the Chief Secretariat of the Holy Synod, addressed a greeting to the Synodical Hierarchs, emphasising among other things the symbolism of convening the works of the Holy Synod in the same sacred space, where many of his venerable Predecessors rest, who fought for the defense of the unity and rights of the ambassadorial Patriarchal Throne.

 

His Eminence Geron Metropolitan Gabriel of Leontopolis, Patriarchal Vicar General, responded to His Beatitude on behalf of all the Metropolitans and Bishops of the Holy Synod.

Then, His Beatitude Patriarch Theodore informed the Holy Synod at length about the work he had accomplished during the recent time period, from January this year to the current month, in all areas of his ministry as Primate of the Alexandrian Church.

Subsequently, the Holy Synod dealt extensively and in detail with the issue of the non-canonical entry of the Church of Russia into the parish spiritual and pastoral jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Alexandria on the continent of Africa, under the coordination of the so-called “Patriarchal Exarch of Africa” of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Klin Leonidas Gorbachev.

After a dialogical discussion, the Holy Synod proceeded to depose the former Metropolitan Klin Leonidas from the high ministry of the High Priesthood for a series of Canonical offenses, (encroachment on the jurisdiction of the Church’s Jurisdiction, consecrating of antiminsia, distribution of holy myrrh, purchase of native clergy, even defrocked ones, creation of faction groups, ethnophyletism, etc.) and they condemned the new ecclesiastical-political “theories” of spreading the Russian world around the world on the basis of nationality.

Finally, following the many months of ignorance and silence by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow towards the written protests of His Beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria to him, regarding the revocation of his northern “Exarchate” bodies from Africa, the commemoration of the name of the Patriarch of Moscow by the Primate of the Alexandrian Church is suspended indefinitely.
