In his Christmas Encyclical of 2025, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria Theodoros II interprets the Incarnation as the central event of divine economy, through which humanity is invited to participate in divine life (theosis). Salvation is presented as a gift of grace, freely offered and realized through human cooperation. The Encyclical highlights Christ’s identification with the suffering—especially refugees and displaced persons—drawing particular attention to contemporary challenges in Africa. It further critiques the secularization of Christmas and affirms the Church’s mission to proclaim peace, justice, and love through liturgical life, pastoral care, and charitable service.
