Within the framework of the traditional exchange of delegations for the respective feasts of their patron saints, on 29 June in Rome for the celebration of Saints Peter and Paul, and on 30 November in Istanbul for the celebration of Saint Andrew, Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Emeritus Prefect of Dicastery for the Eastern Churches, led the delegation of the Holy See for the feast of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

MEETING OF SAINT IRENAEUS JOINT ORTHODOX-CATHOLIC WORKING GROUP IN ROME

The Saint Irenaeus Joint Orthodox-Catholic Working Group gathered for its 17th annual meeting from 6‒10 October 2021 in Rome at the Institute for Ecumenical Studies of the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum). The meeting was chaired by the Orthodox co-president Metropolitan Serafim (Joantă) of Germany, Central and Northern Europe (Romanian Orthodox Church) and by Catholic co-president Bishop Gerhard Feige of Magdeburg.

Σε επιστολή της προς τον κ. Ρετζέπ Ταγίπ Ερντογάν, η Ιερά Σύνοδος της Καθολικής Ιεραρχίας Ελλάδος, ζητά από τον Τούρκο Πρόεδρο να μην προχωρήσει στην μετατροπή της Αγίας Σοφίας σε τζαμί. Την επιστολή με ημερομηνία 9 Ιουνίου, υπογράφουν οι σεβασμιότατοι Αρχιεπίσκοποι Καθολικών Αθηνών Σεβαστιανός και Νάξου-Τήνου-Άνδρου-Μυκόνου Νικόλαος, Πρόεδρος και Γραμματέας αντίστοιχα της Ιερά Συνόδου.

MEETING OF THE JOINT WORKING GROUP BETWEEN THE HOLY SEE AND THE RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH


Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity
On 12 February 2020, the Joint Working Group for Coordination of Cultural and Social Projects between the Holy See and the Russian Orthodox Church held its annual meeting at the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity in Rome. Founded in 2015, the Joint Working Group aims at promoting a range of initiatives in the cultural, academic and social spheres.

The foreign minister of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Moscow visited the pope in the Vatican. The tone of the meeting was very cordial.

FOURTH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS FOR HISTORIC MEETING IN HAVANA BETWEEN POPE FRANCIS AND PATRIARCH KIRILL

Two main events took place in Rome on 12 February to mark the fourth anniversary of the historic meeting in Havana in 2016 between Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill. Both events, a conference followed by a concert, were jointly organized by the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate.

To mark the fourth anniversary of the historic meeting in Havana between Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill, the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and the Department for External Church Affairs of the Moscow Patriarchate have jointly organized a conference and concert on Wednesday 12 February 2020 in Rome.

LE RELAZIONI TRA CHIESA CATTOLICA E CHIESA ORTODOSSA. DIALOGO CHE CONTINUA


(Andrea Palmieri, Sotto-Segretario del Pontificio Consiglio per la promozione dell’unità dei cristiani) Il 2019 ha visto l’allacciarsi di una fitta trama di relazioni tra la Chiesa cattolica e la Chiesa ortodossa. Le crescenti tensioni esistenti all’interno del mondo ortodosso, legate alla concessione dell’autocefalia alla Chiesa ortodossa ucraina da parte del Patriarcato ecumenico di Costantinopoli lo scorso 6 gennaio, non hanno impedito che si continuassero a sviluppare rapporti bilaterali con ciascuna delle Chiese ortodosse e che il dialogo teologico ufficiale proseguisse il suo cammino.
