PATRIARCH OF ALEXANDRIA RECEIVED THE APOSTOLIC NUNCIO OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH

The problems faced by Christians in the Middle East in general, as well as how the local Christian churches can deal with them, were examined during today’s first visit of the Apostolic Nuncio of the Roman Catholic Church, Bishop Nicholas, who was received by Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa, at the Patriarchal Committee in Hamzaoui, the capital of Egypt.

The Apostolic Nuncio Nicholas expressed his joy to meet the Primate of the African Orthodox Church and his satisfaction with the work done by the Patriarchate of Alexandria both in Egypt and on the African continent.

For his part, the Patriarch of Alexandria referred to the many visits he had made following the Blessed Patriarch Parthenios, from 1990 to 1997, while conveying his patriarchal greetings to Pope Francis, emphasized the great historical relationship between the two Churches, and noted for two great pillars for the church, as he characterized the Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Holy See.

It is important to emphasize the Apostolic Nuncio’s interest in all this cultural treasure kept by the Patriarchate of Alexandria at its headquarters, the Patriarchal Library, the Museum, and the Catacombs, with the Patriarch of Alexandria inviting him to visit the Patriarchate at its headquarters in Alexandria.

In fact, Patriarch Theodore referred to the large and important program of restoration of the 500 most historic publications kept in the Patriarchate, with the help of the Library of Alexandria and Cyprus.

He also referred to the importance of ecclesiastical education for the Patriarchate, inviting the Apostolic Nuncio to visit the School “Athanasius the Great” in St. Sava of Alexandria, as well as the Rotunda of the East, the monastery of St. George in Old Cairo, and the many schools and colleges established by the Patriarchate of Alexandria throughout Africa.

The visit of the Apostolic Nuncio was attended by the Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo, Metropolitan Nikodimos of Memphis, who guided the Roman Catholic Bishop to the Cathedral of St. Nicholas.
