World Council of Churches (WCC) acting general secretary Rev. Prof.
Dr Ioan Sauca invites all member Churches to observe a global prayer day
on 14 May 2020. The joint initiative with the members of the Higher
Committee of Human Fraternity, of which the WCC is part, is calling for
“prayer and supplication” to God for an end to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As Orthodox Christians, we are united in the sacraments and
our teachings, but as human beings we are also united in our solidarity
and suffering. Therefore, during this period of intensive prayer and
spiritual discipline of Great Lent, the pandemic that our communities
are facing throughout our nation and throughout the world obliges us to
slow down and reflect on the way that we glorify God as well as the way
that we express compassion toward our brothers and sisters.
Over the course of two days (January 21 – 22/ 2020), the Executive
Committee held its regular meeting in Larnaca – Cyprus. The meeting was
generously hosted by His Beatitude Chrysostomos II, Archbishop of Nova Justiniana and All Cyprus of the Greek Orthodox Church of Cyprus.
The members of the Executive Committee who participated in the meeting
came from Cyprus, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine.

Around
the world the Church proclaims with joy the coming of the Lord Jesus:
looking back to his incarnation and forward to his second coming in
glory. Around the world Christians rejoice that Jesus Christ, Emmanuel,
is God with us. Through him we have life, and have it abundantly.
“L’obbligo

qualsiasi altra denominazione protestante, è quello di rispettare e
riconoscere ‘l’altro’”.
