First visit to Mount Athos by a Bishop of the
new Autocephalous Church of Ukraine.
With the
blessing of His All-Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch, Archbishop of
Constantinople- New Rome, Mgr. Bartholomew, and with the permission of His
Beatitude Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukrainian, Mgr. Epiphany, a delegation
of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine headed by the Bishop of Odessa
and Balthas, Pavlos, began her first official visit to Mount Athos.
His
Eminence, after his visit and stay at the Holy Monastery of Pantokrator, where
he celebrated the Eucharist, he visited today the Holy Governance of Mount
Athos. There, according to the protocol, he submitted his compliments and
received the recommendation letter of the Holy Governance to all the
monasteries of Mount Athos. All hierarchs who visit this Holy place receive
such a letter, with the permission of the Ecumenical Patriarch, and all monks
on Mount Athos are informed about it the canonical status of the bearer of it and
his ability to celebrate the Liturgy and the other services on the holy altars
of Mount Athos.
Next, the
delegation of the Ukrainian Church visited the residence of the (canonical) Holy
Monastery of Esphigmenou in Karyes, where they were wholeheartedly welcomed in
a very warm climate and worshiped in the monastery's temple. There, holy relics
were exhibited for adoration and a meeting was held with the Abbott of the
Monastery of Archimantrite Bartholomew.
In the
meeting the need for unity of all Orthodox Christians was stressed, and afterward
a briefing was made of the great problem of Mount Athos, the continued
occupation of the central building of the Holy Monastery of Esphigmenou by people
unrelated to Mount Athos.
In the
discussion that followed the important unifying role of the Great Church of
Christ, the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, was also stressed, based
on the apostolic legacy and the teachings of the Holy Fathers.
Then the
abbot of the Esphigmenou Monastery donated to Bishop Pavlos a High-priestly
engolpion and received in return a sacred icon of the Virgin Mary and an
Orthodox rosary (komposkini) from a stone of the Ukrainian land. He did also
pay his tribute and submitted his repentance to His Beatitude, the Metropolitan
of Kyiv and All Ukraine, expressing his hope to welcome him also to the
Monastery in the future.
Finally,
the Delegation of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine, after inviting the
Abbott of Esphigmenou to visit Ukraine, left for pilgrimage to the rest of the
monasteries of the Holy Garden of All-Holy Theotokos.
Ύστερα από ευλογία της αυτού Θειοτάτης Παναγιότητος, του Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχου, Αρχιεπισκόπου Κωνσταντινουπόλεως και Νέας Ρώμης, κ.κ. Βαρθολομαίου και με την άδεια του Μακαριωτάτου Μητροπολίτου Κιέβου και πάσης Ουκρανίας Επιφανίου, αντιπροσωπεία της Αυτοκέφαλης Ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας της Ουκρανίας, με επικεφαλής τον Επίσκοπο Οδησσού και Μπάλτας κ. Παύλο, ξεκίνησε την πρώτη επίσημη επίσκεψη της στο Άγιο Όρος.
Ο επίσκοπος μετά από την επίσκεψη και διαμονή του στην Ιερά Μονή Παντοκράτορος, όπου λειτούργησε, επισκέφθηκε σήμερα την Ιερά Επιστασία. Εκεί κατά την τάξη υπέβαλε τα σέβη του και έλαβε το συστατήριο έγγραφο της Ιεράς Επιστασίας προς όλες τις μονές του Αγίου Όρους (με συστατήριο έγγραφο εφοδιάζεται κάθε αρχιερέας που επισκέπτεται τον ιερό τόπο με την άδεια του Οικουμενικού Πατριάρχου και δι’ αυτού πληροφορούνται οι Αγιορείτες για την κανονικότητα του φέροντος αυτό και την δυνατότητα να λειτουργεί στα ιερά θυσιαστήρια του Αγίου Όρους).
Στην συνέχεια, η αντιπροσωπεία της Εκκλησίας της Ουκρανίας επισκέφτηκε το αντιπροσωπείο της Ι.Μ. Εσφιγμένου, όπου έγινε δεκτή σε πολύ θερμό κλίμα και προσκύνησε στον ναό του αντιπροσωπείου. Εκεί εκτέθηκαν προς προσκύνηση άγια λείψανα και έγινε συνάντηση με τον Καθηγούμενο της Ι. Μονής αρχιμ. Βαρθολομαίο.
Στη συνάντηση τονίστηκε η ανάγκη ενότητας όλων των ορθοδόξων χριστιανών και ακολούθησε ενημέρωση για το μεγάλο αγιορείτικο πρόβλημα της συνεχιζόμενης κατάληψης του κεντρικού κτηρίου της Ι. Μονής Εσφιγμένου από άσχετα προς το Άγιο Όρος στοιχεία.
Συζητήθηκε επίσης ο σημαντικός ενοποιητικός ρόλος της Μεγάλης του Χριστού Εκκλησίας, του Οικουμενικό Πατριαρχείου Κωνσταντινουπόλεως, με βάση τις αποστολικές παρακαταθήκες και τις διδαχές των αγίων πατέρων.
Κατόπιν, ο ηγούμενος της Μονής Εσφιγμένου δώρισε ένα εγκόλπιο στον αρχιερέα και έλαβε από αυτόν μία ιερή εικόνα της Θεοτόκου και κομβοσκοίνι από λίθο της ουκρανικής γης, ενώ παράλληλα υπέβαλε την μετάνοιά του προς τον Μακαριώτατο Μητροπολίτη Κιέβου και Πάσης Ουκρανίας κ. Επιφάνιο και εξέφρασε την ελπίδα να τον υποδεχθεί στο μέλλον στο αντιπροσωπείο της Μονής.
Τέλος, η αντιπροσωπεία της Αυτοκέφαλης Ορθόδοξης Εκκλησίας της Ουκρανίας, αφού προσκάλεσε τον Εσφιγμενίτη καθηγούμενο να επισκεφθεί την Ουκρανία, αποχώρησε για προσκύνημα στις υπόλοιπες μονές του Περιβολίου της Παναγίας.
