“Churches engaged in shaping the future of Europe must be imaginative and brave, confident not arrogant, listening not just speaking, trusting not anxious, hopeful not merely optimistic.” Over 300 participants of the 2023 CEC General Assembly, representing CEC Member Churches from across Europe, have come up with the following assembly message, inspiring the church fellowship.

The Conference of European Churches (CEC) will hold its 16th General Assembly from 14 – 20 June 2023 in Tallinn, Estonia, exploring the theme “Under God’s blessing – shaping the future”.

The Conference of European Churches (CEC) together with the Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) highlights a message of love, hope and peace this Christmas, for Ukraine and beyond. Addressing all churches and people across the continent, celebrating Christmas in diverse traditions, CEC President Rev. Christian Krieger and COMECE President H. Em. Card. Jean-Claude Hollerich SJ have issued the following message.

Video presentations from CEC seminar on the “role of religion in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine” are now available. The speakers representing Ukrainian churches addressed topics related to global church response, religious diplomacy and the responsibility of European churches in promoting ecumenical dialogue, while safeguarding justice and truth.

On the occasion of the 3rd European Catholic Social Days, the President of the Conference of European Churches (CEC), Rev. Christian Krieger, deeply regrets the war in Ukraine, saying, “This time of the year, dedicated for inner questioning, has been disrupted by the return of tragedy of war, traumas and devastating effects to European soil that we thought belonged to the past.”
