Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria expressed his optimism, but also his willingness to help with his own forces in resolving the difficulties created by the Ukrainian issue.
In a statement to the Sunday newspaper “To Vima tis Kyriakis”, the
primate of the Second Orthodox Church declared: “I will help with all my
strength to find a solution. The effort has just begun.”
The Patriarch’s statement came a few days after the commemoration of
Epifaniy of Kiyv that surprised everyone and led to the cessation of his
commemoration by the Moscow Patriarchate.
“My decision to recognize the Church of Ukraine came after a lot of
prayer and meditation. And that was the will of the other Synodal
Archpriests too. I had to show that I am a true Patriarch who
understands the seriousness of the issues and is trying to find a
solution. With the recognition we begin to solve the problem,” Patriarch
Theodore noted in “To Vima”.
He also said that “I made my decision with respect to the Ecumenical
Patriarch and the history of the Patriarchate. From this moment on I
will help with all my strength and along with all the Churches to solve
the problem and find a solution. The effort has just begun.”
