Ecumenical Patriarch from Davos: World leaders mustn’t place nat’l economic interests above interests of humanity

The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, on Tuesday called on the world’s leaders to take immediate measures to protect the global environment, as well as to avoid placing their countries’ economic interests above the interests of humanity, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Participating in a round-table discussion on environmental issues and climate change, the Ecumenical Patriarch also answered questions by panelists and reporters.

His All Holiness characteristically said, «…This is not a personal issue of pride for the Orthodox Church. Rather, it is an urgent priority… We can all disagree over social policy or political action. However, we all agree over the need to protect our world and its natural resources for future generations.»
