At
the invitation of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of the Greek
Orthodox Archdiocese of America, His Metropolitan Tikhon
attended a meeting with His Grace Bishop Metodije of Diokleia, Vicar of
Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro.
During the meeting, Metropolitan Tikhon had the opportunity to hear
about the situation of the Orthodox Church in Montenegro and to
personally express the support of the Orthodox Church in America for His
Holiness Patriarch Irinej and the Metropolis of Montenegro of the
Serbian Orthodox Church.
Also
in attendance at the meeting were His Grace Bishop Irinej of the
Serbian Diocese of Eastern America, Archpriest Alexander Rentel,
Chancellor of the Orthodox Church in America, Archpriest Mihaelo
Backovich from the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro and Priest
Nicholas Kazarian, Ecumenical Affairs Officer of the Greek Orthodox
Archdiocese.
On January 14, 2020 Metropolitan Tikhon addressed a letter of support to Patriarch Irinej.
In that letter, Metropolitan Tikhon said, “We wish to make it clear to
you and your beloved flock that the Orthodox Church in America prays
for, supports, and maintains communion with the Metropolis of Montenegro
of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and that the Orthodox Church in America
does not recognize as canonical the so-called “Montenegrin Orthodox
Church” nor its “clergy” headed by the defrocked Miraš Dedeić.”
