Theologian, ROC Archimandrite Kirill (Govorun) is convinced that the Moscow Patriarchate only imitated the process of overcoming the Orthodox schism in Ukraine, while the Ecumenical Patriarchate has indeed overcome it.
The expert made the relevant comment in his interview with the “Igumennekayus” Telegram channel.
“As for the Ukrainian schism, Moscow only imitated the process of overcoming it, which at one time disappointed me a lot. Meanwhile, Constantinople managed to tackle it despite all the risks it was facing. So I think they did it in a Christian way. It’s about motivation. As for the methods, indeed, they are not always too different. However, this is no longer a problem of Moscow or Constantinople, but of modern Orthodox ecclesiology in general, especially in its practical part,” Govorun said.
He added that he saw no grounds for Moscow to sever Eucharistic communication with the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
