ABSTRACT

 We ought to note forall this leng thy period of preparation, that the work of the responsible bodies for the preparation of the Holy and Great Council is a necessary and essential part of itsmission, be-cause all the local Orthodox Churcheswere represented andtookplacein thedrafting atthe agendaofthe issues of the Holy and Great Council.Theselection of the agenda (ten issues) through voting bythe First Pre-Conciliar Pan-Orthodox Conference(1976) fromthe extensive list of issues First Pan-Orthodox Conference(1961) confirmed that the Orthodox Churchdid notconfrontedserious matters of faith. Orthodox Churchhas beenremaining unwaveringly faithfulto the decisions of the Ecumenical Councils and the teaching of the Fathers.Furthermore, the selection of the agendawasthe cornerstone for the answers of practical issues and the securing of the unity of the Orthodox.Theresponsible ecclesiastical bodies ofthe preparation of the Holy and Great Councildefined the decisions in real ecclesiastical and ecclesiological dimensionsforeach issue. The Rules of Operation of the Pan-Orthodox Conferences wereparticularly important.These shortened the procedures for the Holy and Great Council, by theproper preparation of the issues.The convocation by His All-Holiness Ecu-menicalPatriarch Bartholomew of Sacred Synaxis of Their Beatitudes the Primates of themost holy Or-thodox Churches helped to shorten the procedures for the Holy and Great Council.Finally, theSecre-tariat for the Preparation of the Holy and Great Councilprovided an important task, through thedeal of issueswith a wide variety,the support oftheconciliation procedures and the support of particular com-mittees.
