The Face of God: The Orthodox Church on Climate Change, a Pan-Orthodox Film

A new Pan-Orthodox film, The Face of God: The Orthodox Church on Climate Change, has been released by the Orthodox Fellowship of the Transfiguration. The film captures the beauty of creation as a living icon of God, derived from a quote of St. John of Damascus, “The whole world is a living icon of the face of God,” and how current environmental changes are challenging Orthodox Christian parishes. 

The film features His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, who says that “creation care is the vocation of every Orthodox Christian.”

Further, Archdeacon John Chryssavgis, the environmental advisor to the Ecumenical Patriarch, offers insight at the intersections of history and the current crisis, while Nicholas Anton speaks to the importance of being stewards of creation. The voices of Orthodox hierarchs, scientists, politicians, lay leaders, theologians, and communities around the world, add great urgency to the challenges our planet and humanity face today. 

The Face of God offers the knowledge and tools for ecological stewardship through study groups and local parish action, with resources on their website.
