The
Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa is preparing to officially
notify and brief the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, via a
Patriarchal letter by the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All
Africa, His Most Divine Beatitude Theodoros II, over what the latter
condemns as an “intrusion” by the Moscow Patriarchate into the
Alexandria Patriarchate’s ecclesiastical jurisdiction.
The Russian Orthodox Church recently announced that it was establishing
an Exarchate for Africa, a move that the ancient Patriarchate of
Alexandria and All Africa considers as absolutely against canonical
order.
According to reports, His Most Divine Beatitude will request from the Ecumenical Patriarch, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, for the convening of a synaxis, or assembly, of all the Primates of the ancient Orthodox Churches, along with the Archbishop of Cyprus, so that this divisive issue can be broached and dealt with.
After officially briefing the Ecumenical Patriarch, the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria will brief all other Primates of Orthodox Churches over the matter.
