A summon was issued to the Archpriest of the Church of Russia, Andrea Novikov, and also to the clergyman of the Church of Russia, George Maximov, by the Synodal Court of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, in order to appear before the Court and be questioned for any misconduct committed with regard to the sacred rules.
According to the indictment of the Synodal Court of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, the two clergymen are accused of performing a Divine Liturgy and other rites in the area under the canonical jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, unauthorised by the Patriarch Theodore and the local Bishops.
They are accused of delivering the officiation with a defrocked clergyman, as well as of “grave stumbling of the flock of the Church”.
The Synodal Court clarifies that, in case they do not appear before the Court (on February 24), they will be tried in absentia.
