On January 21, 2019, Pope Francis received Claudio Gugerotti, the
titular Archbishop of Ravello, Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine, at a private
audience.
During the meeting, the Pope assured the Nuncio that he was following
daily developments in Ukraine, towards which he has special sentiments.
As the Apostolic Nunciature reports, the Pope “focused on the
delicate state of internal relations in Orthodoxy, on the contribution
that the Catholic Churches in Ukraine make for the good of the country,
in the political and social climate; especially the need to make every
effort in order to strengthen peace through dialogue, for the sake of
citizens' well-being and better conditions for everyone, as well as for
the full exercise of religious freedom. The Holy Father assured of His
incessant prayer for Ukraine and bestowed his Apostolic Blessing onto
her people.”
