The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, said today:
"I was saddened to hear of the death of His Eminence Gregorios, Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Tyateira and Great Britain for thirty years. His Eminence was an example of holy living and selfless devotion to Jesus Christ and his body, the Church. I was privileged to count him as a friend and a brother in Christ.
"I offer my condolences to His All Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew, to His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain and to the Greek Orthodox Community in this country as they mourn the loss of a true shepherd of the flock.
"May he rest in peace and rise in Glory."
