In his address to Ukrainians, President Petro Poroshenko noted that “the state has done everything it could and should for the Tomos”.
“Our negotiations lasted several years. The Ecumenical Throne has also done everything it could. We, Ukrainians, are extremely grateful to His All-Holiness Bartholomew for such love and attention to Ukraine,” Petro Poroshenko emphasized.
According to the Head of State, there is only one step left to complete the process.
“Now our Orthodox hierarchs have to assemble and hold a unifying council. The elected primate will have the honor to receive the Tomos from the hands of the Ecumenical Patriarch,” the President emphasized.
“Moscow - a state and a Russian church, FSB officials and clerics, people in uniforms, cassocks, crosses, lampasse - were ready to stoop to anything to disrupt this decision. But the Lord was with us, as we are waging a righteous struggle for our independence, and the Tomos is a historic event on this path,” the Head of State noted.
