Constantinople Patriarchate's representative stated that the upcoming Pan-Orthodox Council in Crete cannot be canceled and its status cannot be changed without approval from all 14 churches.

KOLYMVARI (Crete) (Sputnik) The upcoming Pan-Orthodox Council in Crete cannot be canceled and its status cannot be changed without approval from all 14 churches, the Constantinople Patriarchate's representative told Sputnik.
"The convening of the council was a unanimous decision taken at a Synaxis in January, and there should be a consensus before the council is canceled or its status is changed. Some churches made certain proposals at the last minute, but there was no unanimity on changing or canceling the council. So the council will take place and we will see what the results are," Archbishop Job of Telmessos said.
The Archbishop, who represents the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, did not confirm media claims that Orthodox leaders will only hold the first session of the council before adjourning for several months or until the next year.
"I saw these press reports, but I do not have any official information. It is important to understand that the council is not just an event, it is a process that began 50 years ago, when we began to prepare and develop topics and texts. This event will now take place," the cleric said.
